Our Story

Though Gary and Jason both hail from the Texas Hill Country—Austin and Kerrville, respectively—their story begins in New York City in 2021, when a fateful Hinge conversation began with Gary’s words to Jason, “A cute boy from Kerrville??? Damn.” Four days later, they were on their first date at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where they both realized they’d found someone special. For the next year, they alternated weekends at Jason’s place in Long Island City, Queens and Gary’s apartment in Brooklyn. In fall 2022, Jason moved in and, together, they replaced all the furniture, painted every wall, and through Jason’s ingenuity, devised storage solutions which made the Bergen Street apartment perfect for two. As writers-with-day-jobs, they created a home base for their creative work, their dreaming, and the delights of their daily life. And, of course, they loved going home to their families in Texas for the holidays—how convenient! In October 2023, they returned to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where Gary proposed and Jason accepted. 

We are so thrilled to have you join us on this special day. Our great desire is to welcome you into the joy of the life we share. We frequently walk or run by the Picnic House on our excursions into Prospect Park. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the square foot of sidewalk where we first laid eyes on each other are mere steps away. Thank you for the gift of your presence as we walk to the park on a Saturday in spring and—surrounded by you, our beloved family and friends—consecrate our union.
